Brainstorming - FaceBook Connect
#11
I understand. I looked at the API myself the other day, and the first paragraph stated that they are in the process of updating it again.

I'll wait patiently. Big Grin

I hope they are not updating it again at the moment!!!

They just changed important license terms and authorizing methods but I hope they'll stick to the Graph API now. Otherwise, I might really freak out!

Okay, I do plan to set up a beta forum running 1.6 on my server with this FB connect plugin activated - would you join a public beta testing?

Just asking myself if it would be useful, if nobody is interested I don't have to do that work... Wink

Better not fetch the facebook username and ask the user to enter a new username upon registration. Just My opinion.

I found this thread when Googling for a MyBB Facebook Connect plugin. Its surprising that such a plugin is not yet available... vBulletin, SMF, phpBB2 (!) already have such a mod.

Anyway, all that to say what you're working on is brilliant! Keep it up as this would be a boost to the MyBB community. I'd pay $50 for such a plugin.

One feature I would suggest is that when a user joins a forum using their Facebook identity they should be presented with the 'invite friends' screen so that they can invite their Facebook friends to the forum. That should help forums grow virally.

Good idea, noted Smile

Currently messing arround with sessions again, FB session is not always here when needed - weird. I might ask users for offline access though.

Lennart, I will be strongly considering subscribing to you if you can pull this off. As a MyBB and an IPB admin, the one thing I think missing from MyBB is the opportunity for alternative logins (ie. Facebook Connect, Twitter Connect, or even OpenID). IPB's Facebook Connect allows one to login and register via. Facebook, but it also does the following.

- Synchronizes an "About Me" section (import)
- Updates avatars and personal pictures (not on MyBB) with the user's Facebook Picture.
- Imports and Exports Facebook Status with Forum Status (and vice versa)

Personally, I only really need the login, but to be able to have other things (such as Facebook Like in every topic or whatever) would also be really good. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you can do.
